High Interest rates
I hear people in the media say, how difficult it is to buy your first home.
Have a look at the numbers from this article dated 16 April 1987, a year later I bought my first home. I believe the biggest difference is the expectations of the first home buyer today.
I never went out on a Saturday or Sunday morning for breakfast and coffee or went on overseas holidays or bought an expensive European car or SUV.
I saved and did the things I needed to do to get my home, and got no handouts from anyone.
No KiwiSaver, no first home grants, we got high-interest rates.
